HHHC's Hospice Training is a total of 33 hours. This training is required of all volunteers who will be working with patients and families. It is open to HHHC employees, prospective volunteers, and community members. Training sessions are held in our Merrimack office at 7 Executive Park Drive. Sample topics include: Hospice Philosophy, Listening Skills, Grief & Bereavement, and Pain & Symptom Management. Training is offered in both daytime and evening sessions.
The course is free for those who are planning to volunteer. There is a fee of $150.00 for those in the community who are taking it for personal or professional development.
If you are taking the training to volunteer, you must attend all sessions to become an active Patient Care Volunteer. (One missed session may be made up at a later date.) We take pride in preparing you for your volunteer experience and ensuring that our patients and families receive the finest service possible. In most cases, you will not begin your volunteering until the training is completed.
Training is offered twice a year, in Spring and Fall. We try to make it accessible to individuals with a variety of schedules, so it is offered daytimes in the Spring and evenings in the Fall. An intensive 2-week Summer Training is held when the level of interest warrants it.
Spring 2016 Training dates: The Spring Hospice Training session will begin on Wednesday, February 24th from 9am-noon, and continue weekly through Thursday, May 4th (with Thursday May 11th reserved as a makeup date if needed).
PLEASE NOTE: Due to some conflicts with several participants, we have decided to push back the start of our training by 1 week. Rather than beginning Feb 24th, we will begin the following week, March 2nd. Our final session will be May 11th.
Intensive Training Opportunity - Summer 2016: A special Summer Intensive Training course will be offered to accommodate teachers, students and others who wish to volunteer. We will be meeting eight afternoons: July 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, and 21 from 12:30-5:00pm. Application must be submitted and interview completed prior to training. This course will be confirmed by the end of June if we have sufficient interest.
Fall 2016 Training dates: The Fall Hospice Training session will begin on Wednesday, September 22nd from 6 – 9 pm, and continue weekly through Wednesday, December 7th (with Wednesday December 14th reserved as a makeup date if needed). We will not meet the week of Thanksgiving.
