Volunteer Opportunities
Are you looking for the kind of rewards out of life that money just can't buy? Become a volunteer!
Home Health & Hospice Care needs volunteers to provide friendly visits, respite care, bereavement support, transportation and other assistive services to home care and hospice clients and their families in southern NH and northern MA. You can help improve the quality of life for these individuals by giving only 1-4 hours per week, at your convenience — and no medical experience is required.
Become part of our hospice team and help families feel less alone during a difficult time. You can provide emotional support and companionship to individuals with a life-threatening illness, and provide caregivers with an opportunity to get out and take a break. Volunteers also provide a variety of complementary services, including therapeutic art, music at the bedside, Reiki, and pet therapy visits.
Twice yearly, HHHC offers a free, 33-hour Training and Education Program for potential hospice volunteers. This training is required of all volunteers who will be working with patients and families. Training sessions are held in our Merrimack office. Sample topics include: Hospice Philosophy, Listening Skills, Grief & Bereavement, and Pain & Symptom Management. Training is offered in both daytime and evening sessions.
HHHC has many other volunteer opportunities that do not require specialized training. In addition to patient care, our volunteers also provide administrative support, participate on agency committees, plan and staff special events and fundraisers, and even do gardening at the Community Hospice House.
Last year alone, over 300 HHHC volunteers gave 7,277 patient hours, 434 hours to events and special projects, and 5,656 hours in administrative support, driving 71,570 miles to perform these critical services.
